FLOTUS Honors the 2011 Military Child of the Year Award Recipients

 

Last week, First Lady Michelle Obama honored the 2011 Military Child of the Year Award recipients and discussed the impressive accomplishments of the honorees.

This week will be a busy week for Michelle Obama and Jill Biden as they will visit Denver on Wednesday and the Colorado Springs area Thursday in a show of support for the families of military personnel. The pair will also visit Camp LeJeune on Thursday and are scheduled to speak to thousands. 

The tour continues over four cities Wednesday and Thursday.

Much thanks to the First and Second Ladies for their efforts in this very important endeavor.

Multifaceted Michelle!

Our First Lady has had quite a busy week with her mentoring initiatives while concurrently heading Lets Move.  In addition to all of this, The White House says Michelle Obama and the Vice President's wife, Jill Biden, will kick off a national effort on April 12 to increase public support for U.S. service members and their families.  The new campaign will focus on four areas: employment, education, wellness and public awareness. Thanks to this administration we have a refined image of military families.

Last week's mentoring event was quite a thrill for the mentors and the mentees.  The transcript from the dinner can be found here.

FLOTUS Makes Surprise Trip to Chicago to Tape Oprah Show

This morning I narrowly made it on to the Dan Ryan Expressway before the Chicago Police Department shutdown my entrance ramp. I quickly noticed that the entire 7 lane highway was eerily empty. A quick glance revealed that traffic was at a standstill on all connecting ramps. Wonder who’s in town I thought as I sped away doing 75 trying to make it to my exit hoping it would not be closed as well.

So who was it that was able to bring midday traffic to a complete standstill, in a city recently given the unsavory distinction of having the worst traffic in the U.S.? It was none other than our Fabulous FLOTUS and fellow Southsider, Michelle Obama.
