Last night President Obama accepted the nomination to run for a second term as President of the United States. Once again the Democratic National Convention set a social media record. According to TechCrunch the President's speech garnered 52,757 Tweets per minute with the entire convention topping a total of 9 million.
"Here are some of the President’s biggest Twitter spikes:
-43,646: “I’m no longer just the candidate, I’m the President”
-39,002: “I will never turn medicare into a voucher”
-38,597: Discussing Medicare
-37,694: “We don’t think government can solve all our problems…”
-34,572: Quips about the Olympics and “Cold War mind warp”
If these numbers are any indication people seem to be getting fired up and ready to go.

FLOTUS Flawless in Tracy Reese

First Lady Michelle Obama was flawless last night in a Tracy Reese dress as she delivered her speech at the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, North Carolina. The speech brought the convention crowd to their feet and had many at home in tears as they listened to Mrs Obama make the case for her husband's reelection. FLOTUS was so flawless that her carefully coiffed curl garnered its own Twitter account, @MichellesCurl. While the First Ladies' curl does not have as many followers as @InvisibleObama it was still a nice try.
While Mrs Obama looked great she was not just window dressing. Her speech definitely differentiated her husband from his challenger, raised the energy level at the convention and rallied the base at home. Mashable.com describes FLOTUS' speech as the "Speech That Destroyed Twitter." According to Mashable.com...
"Michelle Obama’s Tuesday night speech about her husband and the Obama family at the Democratic National Convention drove 28,003 tweets-per-minute at its peak, nearly double the 14,289 mark reached by Mitt Romney‘s acceptance speech at the Republican convention last week."
"By the end of its first night, the Democratic Convention as a whole had sparked more than 3 million tweets, nearing the 4 million point reached by the entirety of last week’s Republican Convention."
And who could forget the most epic line of the night...
"Being president doesn't change who you are. It reveals who you are." Michelle Obama
Pundits are touting the speech as "politically masterful" saying we're witnessing the transformation of Michelle Obama the political spouse to Michelle Obama the politician. While no one knows the future, we do know that the First Ladies' speech delivered and now it's up to the Democratic base to bring it home.

First Lady Michelle Obama takes center stage tonight in Charlotte as the Democrats kickoff their three day convention.
