This Week With FLOTUS

FLOTUS addresses supporters in Orlando, FL this week

This week with FLOTUS includes threats, farm fundraisers, Let’s Move!, a battleground state and speculation over what would happen if First Lady Michelle Obama decided to run for political office.

A DC police officer threatened to shoot First Lady Michelle Obama. According to The Raw Story

“A D.C. police officer who worked as a motorcycle escort for White House officials is under investigation for allegedly threatening to shoot First Lady Michelle Obama.

The Washington Post reported that the officer allegedly told his colleagues he wanted to shoot the First Lady and described the firearm he would use.

The officer, who has not been identified, was moved to administrative duty amid the investigation.”

Other reports also state that the officer pulled out his cell phone to show a picture of the firearm he would use to do the shooting. In a perfect world this officer’s career would be over. However, with the poor history local police departments have disciplining their own I'm skeptical. Will the officer simply be reassigned only to resurface years later when he unloads on some other unsuspecting citizen? I'm also curious and would like to know the officer’s identity and backstory. Have we reached a point in this country where animosity and intolerance are so great that people need to screened and placed in jobs according to their political affiliation? What happened to respect the office regardless of the person is the seat? Did we not learn anything from 2000 to 2008?

FLOTUS @ AME Church Conference

Courtesy of the White House Blog...

"What a pleasure it was to travel to Nashville, Tennessee with the First Lady as she addressed the 49th Quadrennial Session of the African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Church's General Conference.  The AME Church is the nation's oldest African American denomination. Tracing its roots back to the time of slavery in the late 1700s, the minister who started the first AME church did so after his former church demanded African Americans worship in a segregated balcony. Since then the denomination – fueled by the strength, determination, and unflinching faith that sustained that early church – has been an engine for change in communities throughout American history. AME churches have been stops on the Underground Railroad, hosts of civil rights marches, and even, founders of universities."

Double Dutch FLOTUS Style

First Lady Michelle Obama showed off her double dutch skills once again on Live! With Kelly. This is why we love her! Mrs Obama is hands down the coolest First Lady ever. She undoubtedly will be a tough act to follow.

FLOTUS is now on Pinterest

First Lady Michelle Obama is now on Pinterest! FLOTUS joined the inspiration picture pin up site on Wednesday. The board is run by the Obama 2012 campaign but I am sure we can look forward to the First Lady doing some personal pinning of her own. With over 16,000 followers 3 boards and 16 pins, FLOTUS only follows one user, POTUS of course. It's been a long time coming and I'm looking forward to following her pins. Hope those Obama 2012 pinners are creative and don't just repin the standard campaign trail photos. Happy pinning FLOTUS!

First Lady Michelle Obama heads to New York next week to discuss her new book, American Grown: The Story of the White House Kitchen Garden and Gardens Across America. The book is set to be released on May 29th. According to the White House Press Office, FLOTUS did not receive an advance for the book and all author proceeds will go to the National Park Foundation, the official charity of America's national parks.

More from the White House Press Office...

First Lady Michelle Obama will discuss her upcoming book, American Grown: The Story of the White House Kitchen Garden and Gardens Across America in New York on Tuesday and Wednesday next week. The book offers a look at the first vegetable garden at the White House since Eleanor Roosevelt’s Victory Garden and shares inspiring stories of Americans from across the country who are actively engaged in community, school, and urban gardens.

Mrs. Obama accepted no advance for American Grown and all author proceeds will go to the National Park Foundation, the official charity of America’s national parks.  Funds will be used for programs that promote gardening and healthy eating and give young people the opportunity to experience the outdoors and lead more active lives, as well as for the continued care of the White House Kitchen Garden.  Random House will also donate a portion of its profits to the National Park Foundation.

In New York, Mrs. Obama will be interviewed about American Grown on Good Morning America, The View and The Daily Show with Jon Stewart on Tuesday, and on LIVE! with Kelly on Wednesday, with this latter interview scheduled to air on a later date.
