Fox News "Regrets" Labeling Michelle as "Obama's Baby Mama"

New York Times: "Michelle Obama Dresses To Win"---- Refers to "Strong Personality"

It must be an editorial dictate at the New York Times to describe Michelle Obama as having a "strong personality." What does "strong personality" mean? On June 8, 2008, in an article by ADAM NAGOURNEY and JEFF ZELENY, the NY Times printed the following:

Recognizing the extent to which Republicans view Michelle Obama’s strong views and personality as a potential liability for her husband, Mr. Obama’s aides said they were preparing to bring aboard senior operatives from previous Democratic presidential campaigns to work with her, a clear departure from the typical way the spouse of a candidate is staffed. New York Times

Again, on the same day in the Fashion and Style section's Fashion Diary, the "strong personality" appeared again:

Unlikely as it seems, Michelle Obama, the corporate lawyer with a big education, a bigger résumé and a history of high earnings, can sometimes appear to be tempering her own strong personality with a modernized version of another era’s ladylike clothes. New York Times

The rest of the article pays homage to Michelle's fashion choices throughout the campaign.

Obama Site "Stop the Smears" Disputes the Existence of a Michelle Obama "Whitey" Video Tape

For weeks conservative bloggers and radio hosts have been alluding to a videotape featuring Michelle Obama using the word "Whitey." As reported on What About Our Daughters?, the purported existence of the tape follows the plotline of a novel,The Power broker by Stephen Frey Finally mainstream media picked up the story and started mentioning it despite the fact that they knew the rumor originated from a source that had been completely and totally wrong in the past. The tape does not exist. Today the Obama campaign ( FINALLY) created a site called Fight the Smears and one of the first things they addressed is the Michelle Obama "Whitey" tape.

LIE: Rush Limbaugh says a tape exists of Michelle Obama using the word “whitey” from the pulpit of Trinity United LIE: Blogger Larry Johnson writes “New and dramatic developments. This is a heads up. I'll post the news Monday morning by 0900 hours.” LIE: Proven GOP sleazemeister Roger Stone says he has “credible evidence that some indelible record exists” of a tape of Michelle Obama using the term “whitey.” LIE: Blogger: “Tape was filmed between June 26th - July 1st 2004 in Chicago, IL at the Rainbow/PUSH Coalition Conference at Trinity United Church: specifically the Women's Event.” Fight the Smears

The site lists a number of smears and then provides a rebuttal with the option for you to send the campaign's response to others. This is in response to a sea of chain emails floating around the internet about Obama.

Obama being reported as a "terrorist fist jab," to remarks about feeling proud of her country for the first time being used against her in a Republican pro-patriotism campaign video in Tennessee, Michelle Obama is working against the negative current through popular media to show the American people directly who she is. For example, she will be joining the cast of ABC daytime show The View as a guest co-host on June 18. Questions remain, however, about how she will handle the increasingly negative spin as conservative commentators insist her remarks are fair game in the lead-up to November. Chicago Tribune

The reaction has been fast and furious to Fox News calling Michelle Obama "Obama's Baby Mama." From Highbrid Nation:

The gloves are off…let the games begin. In a world where people look to their news sources for important information free from bias its a shame that the Fox News Channel not only has merit but is viable. Criticized by many for being politically motivated, the network rarely if ever does anything to dispute such charges. The political blogoshpere was inflamed yesterday when Fox News described Michelle Obama as “Obama’s Baby Mama” despite the obvious fact that she is his legal wife. Sometimes we’ll hear these things and say “ahhh that can’t be true. someone has fabricated that.” But oh no it’s true.

You know I am seriously trying to keep my cool on this one. Yhe last time I checked Michelle Obama was Barack Obama's wife and the Mother of his children. So here’s the thing (because during this campaign I’m apparently learning that we black people have our own secret code and hand signals so this stuff has to be explained like you are speaking to a child at times), using the phrase “baby mama” to describe this woman implies that like too many people in the black community, she is a mother on her own with no man around doing his job. Except, Barack and Michelle Obama are the exact opposite of this, and that is one of the reason America - especially black America - are so proud of them.

Maureen Dowd of the New York Times did a piece surmising that now that Hillary Clinton is out of the race, Michelle Obama will be the latest contestant in what Dowd calls "Kill the Witch."; It’s good news for Obama that Hillary’s out of the race. But it’s also bad news. Now Republicans can turn their full attention to demonizing Michelle Obama. Mrs. Obama is the new, unwilling contestant in Round Two of the sulfurous national game of “Kill the witch.” New York Times Dowd outlines the various entities that have taken aim at Michelle Obama.

Even the WeeMichelles Aren't Off Limits: Artist Uses Image of Obama Girls Labeled "Nappy Headed Hos"

In what will be one of many, the weeMichelles have been brought into the zaniness that will be the first campaign, an artist's exhibit was shutdown after he used a word that you are not to use related to presidents or presidential candidates in this country. Yes, free speech is not absolute. The exhibit included a picture of Barack Obama's "Audacity of Hope" switched to "The Audacity of Black Hope.", a giant penis on the wall next to a sign saying "once you go Barack", hanging nooses, and this picture of Sasha and Malia Obama. weeMichelles The artist's response:

"My mission as an artist is to raise dialogue and conversation about substantive things," he says, staring through arty glasses that did not have any lenses. "There's so much media time spent on superficial things -- like celebrities. My point is to bring substance back." LA Times

I am pretty sure he would not have used a caption like this over Chelsae Clinton's picture.
