The Politics of Being Michelle Obama

Tonight First Lady Michelle Obama will be the keynote speaker at the Democratic National Committe's (DNC) Women's Leadership Forum. The theme for the event is "A New Foundation: Leading The Way Together." Mrs Obama will be joined by DNC Chairman Governor Tim Kaine, Jennifer O’Malley Dillon, Executive Director, Democratic National Committee, Mitch Stewart, Executive Director, Organizing for America, Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, Representative Debbie Wasserman Schultz, and Valerie Jarrett to name a few.

Midterm elections are just around the corner. Although we here at Michelle Obama Watch like to enjoy the First Lady without getting tied up in all of the politics and policy, we might as well face the reality that the next few months will be a very brutal and bumpy ride. And we thought the Presidential campaign that gave birth to our little corner in the blogosphere was rough. I have a feeling that will be child's play in comparison to the midterm elections. Back then the idea of a First Lady Michelle and a President Obama was considered just a fairy tale to some. Now it is very much a reality and those opposed to that power dynamic are on a mission to "take back their country".

So Michelle Obama Watchers we might as well fasten our seat belts and get ready as the First Lady puts on her political stump speech pumps and goes to bat for her team. It's all a part of the politics of being Michelle Obama. Remember during the campaign when then candidate Obama referred to her as the closer? It's no secret that the First Lady by herself can draw a crowd and the DNC is hoping that they bring their checkbooks and their votes.

According to Lynn Sweet's AOL Politics Daily Blog...

First Lady Michelle Obama, after a thus-far cautious and non-risky tenure at the White House, on Friday debuts in her first political role since the presidential campaign -- headlining a Democratic National Committee fundraiser.

... speaking to a mostly female audience of about 500 people who donated from $250 to $5,000 to the DNC to attend the event. The forum, running through Saturday, also includes other top officials from the Obama White House and the DNC.

For now, the Friday event is the only political one on Mrs. Obama's schedule. Whether she decides to stump for the DNC and related committees, or for individual candidates -- and if so, how intensely -- is an open question with millions of political dollars in the balance.

That's because Mrs. Obama would not only be a hot draw at voter registration and get-out-the vote rallies but a major lure for the very top donors who write checks themselves or generate millions of dollars from their networks of friends, family and acquaintances. At that level, donors expect face time with the principals.

First Lady, between the stump speeches, special appearances, fundraisers, and voter registration drives please continue to make a little time to hug and mentor the children of DC, plant vegetables, and surprise White House guests. Please continue to expand and improve Let's Move and to bring more attention to the corporations that are poisoning the food supply.

Yes, you are right that this election is going to get ugly, and I know that suppression at the polls, is going to happen. A smear campaign already started against the first family, but we all know what's that all about. We the supporters should get ready, by talking to your family, friends, neighbors or who so ever, to go and vote come November. Get involve, for if the Republican takes the majority in Congress, they will launch investigations every day against this Admin, the same thing they did to Clinton. So get up and help!

The thing about Flotus is she is a powerhouse. Grace under pressure and she sure can raise those funds! A great asset to POTUS and many cannot stand it but you know what she is in my prayers and i am enlisting others to pray for FLOTUS so she can help her husband plus enjoy being Mom-In-Chief and FLOTUS.

The Obama's have nothing to fear. The haters have made them stronger and as Sarah said, graceful.

We have to be ready to go cast our vote in November, the same way we were in November 2008. If we think things are hard now, just let those Republicans get back in charge of things. OMG!!! No everything have not gone the way we wanted them to, but things are starting to improve, without any help from the Republicans. Like Obama said the Republicans drove the car in the ditch, now they want the keys back. They have not proven that they deserve the keys back.

DNC Chairman Governor Tim Kaine, wow. How nice to see the first wifey entertain the anti-choice freak her husband choose to head the pro-choice party.
