Elle France Gets it Wrong - Dead Wrong

Here at MOW we are all about showcasing the fabulous fashion sense of First Lady Michelle Obama. She is definitely the most fashion forward First Lady this country has seen in a long time. But did you know that before Mrs Obama became First Lady  Black women had no sense of style? Of course I’m being factious, but sadly Elle France writer Nathalie Dolivo was dead serious.

In a blog post, titled ‘Black Fashion Power’ the writer stated that for Black women fashion is apolitical weapon” and that Black women have “returned to style as a source of dignity.” Dolivo goes on to say, "For the first time, the chic has become a plausible option for a community so far pegged [only] to its street wear codes."

Letters to FLOTUS

Since June 2008 Michelle Obama Watch (MOW) has been all about our Fabulous FLOTUS. While MOW is a repository we are not run by the East Wing.  However, I do occasionally receive emails from readers addressed to Mrs Obama. After receiving these letters I’ve decided to start a new feature here at MOW titled, Letters to the FLOTUS.

As we gird up for the 2012 Presidential Campaign season this is a way for readers to share their thoughts and feelings about the First Lady’s initiatives, appearances and of course the media’s coverage of the First Lady. You never know who may be reading.

To submit a letter click here and make sure to put “Letters to FLOTUS” in the subject line.

To kickoff the feature I’ve decided to share a letter from a MOW reader in Nassau County Florida. This week Mrs Obama traveled to Virginia and Florida to highlight the new nutrition standards for school lunches that were announced by the US Department of Agriculture.

FLOTUS Visits Florida on Debate Night

First Lady Michelle Obama swept through Florida today wearing a sleeveless Jason Wu black dress with exposed seam detailing. With stops in Tampa, Sarasota and Palm Beach the FLOTUS covered a lot of bases, including Let’s Move! and reminding supporters what the November elections may mean for the direction of this country.

The significance of the First Lady’s visit to the key battleground state of Florida on the night of a Republican debate in Jacksonville was not missed by local and national news media.

FLOTUS' SOTU Box Guest List

The guest list for First Lady Michelle Obama's box for tonight's State of the Union Address has been released. The list includes a who’s who of everyday people, Steve Jobs' widow, Laurene Powell Jobs, CEOs, politicians and of course a military spouse, veterans and active duty service people. I’m looking forward to watching the address, but I can’t wait to see what FLOTUS will be wearing. Will she give power to the purple again?

Will you be live Tweeting, blogging or following the State of the Union (SOTU) tonight? Here are a few hashtags courtesy of the White House to help you follow along.

#SOTU is the general hashtag, along with #jobs, #manufacturing, #energy, #education and #fairness which will be the pillars of the President’s speech.

WhiteHouse.gov/SOTU  is the official home to watch the address online. SOTU will also be livestreamed through the White House Live App on FacebookYouTube  and on Google+.

Immediately after the speech, administration officials will be answering questions about the President’s address submitted by citizens via Twitter using the hashtags #WHChat & #SOTU, on Facebook and Google + in front of a live audience of White House Twitter followers  and individuals that work in online communications and social media in non-profits and small businesses.

This is the last SOTU until the November election so show up, get involved and Tweet it up.
